These past few months we have seen the rebirth of virtual worlds. With sites like TurnTable.fm, Chill, and Shaker to name a few. Although Worlize may be news to some they have been around for just over a year and they are based right here in Los Angeles. Worlize is a user-created social gaming and chat platform for Facebook and social networks including Twitter, MySpace and OpenSocial.

Morris May is a computer graphics (CG) film big wig—or at least he was. It is not that Morris is no longer a ‘big wig’ or even an FX supervisor credit for that matter, but rather he splits building ‘ 3D nebulas’ for Reliance Films with surfing. He is not the average computer nerd, one might say.

Among some tech press releases from this week include a few announcements from local LA-based venture, ImageCollect, a micro-stock celebrity photo library, high-res and all all prelicensed. In just over three months, they’ve doubled their library to 3 million photos and are adding 40,000 images per day. The immediate goal is to reach 5M photos by early 2012, all accessible via their streamlined subscription-based service with real time celebrity photo coverage and older archives.

Today marks another great day for the Los Angeles startup scene as Hello Music, a portfolio company of the Elevator Labs, has reached a major membership milestone – 100,000 active members. This is a monumental milestone for the musician-focused marketplace. The company was founded in 2010 and has since been on the rise offering a digital marketplace full of opportunities for musicians all around the world. In 2011 Hello Music became the fastest growing musician-focused company in the U.S thanks the to 42% month-over-month growth.

Hollywood and Silicon Valley converged over coffee at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in West Los Angeles for the Digital Hollywood conference to find out what studios and techies are all buzzing about. 3D Movies, 3D Printing, 3D Televisions, 3DS, our entire screen world is turning 3D and now its time for your mobile screen to get in on the fun. LG 4G Thrill is one of the first mobile devices in the United States to have 3D viewing capabilities without the glasses.  It was first introduced earlier this year at CTIA where LG announced that the 4G Thrill was going to be available on AT&T for $99.99.  Over the past few weeks I’ve been carrying the LG Thrill 4G around everywhere.

Chill.com, from the makers of Namesake, is a video community sharing platform. After you sign up for an account, super easy if you have a Facebook account, you are taken to a page with available lounges for you to view video. You can also create your own lounge. Each lounge has its own theme based on the videos being shown. Everything from hip hop music videos to entertainment news and gossip, there is sure to be a lounge to suit your taste.
