May's Mindshare Eclectic Mix: Keys To Its Success
Events

When you think of a Mindshare event, the word extraordinary would be an understatement. Intellects from a broad range of industries come together to share ideas and bring a rich and diverse culture to the Mindshare event where you would not be able to find at any L.A event. May's event was the second event that I attended and the folks that put it together continue to provide an element of mystery that continues to keep you guessing on what they will do next for the following month's event. The event was held at the loft atop The Brewery in Los Angeles and organized by Doug Campbell, Adam Mefford and Pat Kelly. The loft looks more like something that you would find watching a trendy movie than an event for a gathering of intellectuals.

There is a format to the presentations at the Mindshare event. It begins with a consistent format of introductions to what Mindshare is about. Then, it's followed by the meat and potatoes of the night with presentations from speakers that are given roughly five minutes to talk about their inspirational topic that interests them. Lastly, it’s the Interactions  part of the event where everyone network for the rest of the night until 1am.

Here's the list of presenters from May's Mindshare:

Jeanette Paredes / Photographer & Philanthropist / The Jah Gallery
Paredes runs an art-music-commuity organization that harnesses the power of creativity to inspire under-privileged children by offering a forum in which express themselves.

Alex Farley / Cell Biologist / CalTech
In the wake of Albert Hoffman's recent death, Farley presented the facts behind the effects hallucinogens and other compound chemicals have on the brain. A good debate followed...

Tony Di Zinno / Professor & Producer / Exposure the Show
Di Zinno talked about his new project called "Exposure The Show" which combines philanthropy with photography by using the television as a medium to explore real world situations.

Joel Juarez /Filmmaker / Usumacinta Films
An award winning Mexican film maker, Juarez creates short independent films all across the spectrum. From psychological thrillers to political dramas, his films explore the way people interact with one another and their environments.

In addition, I want to add one neat thing about the Mindshare event. Mindshare attendees can also discuss with each other using an SMS update called wiffiti. How it works is that the SMS text is sent to an SMS short code and their thoughts and questions about the event is updated to the wiffiti board that's projected onto a white screen. I thought this was a very interesting twist to the social interaction sphere that you will find at a Mindshare event compared to other events. The next Mindshare event is June 19th at the same place. Check out the video of the event below.
