DivX Connected: Revolutionizing Internet Media

Hallelujah, it has finally happened! For many the idea of fusing the Internet and TV seems like a pipe dream, yet on Monday, June 30th 2008, I found myself at Cinespace in Hollywood watching history in the making. The friendly folks over at DivX invited members of the community to come celebrate the American release of the DivX Connected, HD Media Player, and no, this is not just any media player...this baby is going to revolutionize entertainment and Internet media. The DivX HD Media Player pretty much does everything short of bringing you your morning coffee! It streams video, photos and music wirelessly to your TV;  enables you to  play all your videos from the PC and the Internet and comes complete with several DivX Connected plug-ins for gaming and infotainment services.

But you don't have to take my word for it because once a demonstration had been completed, I touched base with several authorities on entertainment and Internet media like Brad Murphy, VP of Advertising for Revision3; Alex Albrecht,  Host of Diggnation & the Totally Rad Show and Zadi Diaz, Host of Epic Fu for some user feedback. I also caught up with Douglas Sarine and Kent Nichols  Co-Creators of Ask a Ninja, whose plug-in is actually available on the new DivX HD Player. And for behind the scenes info and tips on how you can get your own plug-in up and running with DivX or what went in to making the event a success I turned to DivX's own Ben Cote, Digital Guru and Tom Huntington, Director of Corporate Communication. And folks all I can say is that this new DivX HD Media Player is one hot box!

As social media properties and consultants work to figure how to make money on the web, a company called Splashcast Media has developed a way where social properties can make money through brand marketing using an advanced widget video player. What's so advanced about it? The simplest way to describe it is that it's a mini network. It has all the nooks and crannies of everything you need in order to be social into one widget where you can take with you across multiple networks. In addition, as a content owner, when you take your widget to other networks, there is a brand identity that makes the Splashcast player different than other players which is the ability to skin a player. Here are some of the features of the widget:

RSS feed
Video and text comments
Twitter functionality
Chat
Video
Photos
Voting
Friend Invites

Also, within this video player one can also create multiple channels for multiple types of content segementations.

Metal Band Motorhead is on the Right Side of the Digital Divide

Keeping up with the digital world is increasingly becoming more and more important, especially for those coming from traditional media.  Todd Singerman understands the relevance in this as he comes from a traditional background in the music industry.  He currently manages metal band Motorhead and has previously worked with others, including Sepultera and Zebrahead.

One of the opportunities he is exploring is leveraging Motorhead’s popularity in Entropia Universe, a virtual world with a real cash economy.  In this virtual universe, there will be a Motorhead Stadium in which real currency is exchanged and used as a revenue opportunity for the band.  Users who take their avatar to Motorhead Stadium will be able to see live shows and access exclusive content.  All of this, of course, for a fee.

When asked why he was attending a tech event, Singerman replied he simply just wants to learn more and by attending these events, he learns directly from the source.
