I love LA and I love the startup ecosystem. I actually think Los Angeles, and arguably New York, is far and away the best place to launch a product than San Francisco and the rest of the bay area. The reason is up in Northern California, it’s a huge community of early adopters and it’s fairly homogenous. In Los Angeles, if you launch a product or a services company and its tech in nature, you are getting a better litmus test. There are more diverse communities here. People give you a better feel if your product has legs.
We live in a generation of startups. The time is ripe for innovation. There was a time my company could not meet payroll the next day and was about to go out of business. Luckily I met with Steve Jobs, who offered to sell my product. It was a success and we made payroll. The difference between success and failure is hair thin.

Be Great Partners, a Los Angeles technology incubator, has recently released a report on the startup community in LA and the information shows a positive growth for startups here in LA. Los Angeles is 3rd in the global startup ecosystem, behind Tel Aviv and Silicon Valley. 94 new startups have launched since January 2013 to June 2013 and the startup ecosystem has raised $500 million in funding in 2013 so far. The numbers are promising and even with some problems arising in LA’s startup community, LA has found ways to keep pushing through.
