Silicon Valley may still be the capital of technology with a mix of new (Google, Facebook) and old (Apple, HP) sprinkling the landscape. However, Silicon Valley isn’t the only place to grow technology innovators from the ground up. Los Angeles has seen its own startup scene develop with Silicon Beach, which stretches between Santa Monica and Playa Vista.
For those who may think Las Vegas is just the home of Zappos, Conferences, and day/night entertainment, well you are right. However, there is a whole new breed of entrepreneurs and startups starting to emerge from the #VegasTech scene. TechZulu had the honor of being invited out to the Tracky Launch event last week. Tracky is an all new startup based out of Las Vegas focusing on social collaboration.
Retail therapy has long been a rich country’s rite of passage. Although, the way we indulge our retail therapy is changing as quickly as our smartphones. This Black Friday we reached record retail sales at traditional brick-and-mortar stores, yet the merging Cyber Monday is proving to be a fighting younger brother. Up 33% this year, according to the Washington Post, online commerce is trending upwards from $175 billion in 2007 to a projection of $335 billion in 2012 (Forrester Research).
I have to admit when I first walked through the doors of the Los Angeles Convention Center to attend Blog World I asked myself why I was wasting my time. Yet “another networking event”. Haven’t I learned by now that it’s better to be disciplined, focused in my office, at the computer, than “on the go” in a daze at a conference. It almost felt like I was there merely out of habit having gone to numerous amounts of conferences over the years being a business owner.
SXSW had to be the best non-stop event of the year thus far. Everyday was filled with mind expanding content with Keynotes from Tony Hsieh, Chris Anderson & Guy Kawasaki, and enough panels to suit whatever your taste for knowledge may be.
