CES Day 1 Standout: Motorola Mobility
Motorola came out of the corner swinging this year at CES in Las Vegas. They did not have just one revolutionary product, Motorola unveiled four. Motorola released their tablet offering, the XOOM, as well as three phones: ATRIX 4G, DROID BIONIC and CLIQ 2.
I was very skeptical this year of CES being nothing more than a slew of also ran, me-too tablets, but Motorola may have something special here. The XOOMwill run Google’s new Android 3.0 operating system Honeycomb that was fully designed from the ground up for tablets. The XOOM is equipped with a dual core processor each running at 1GHz, a 10.1-inch widescreen HD screen and will run on the Verizon wireless 3G network (Upgradable to 4G in 2nd Quarter 2011). The addition of dual cameras, full 1080p HD video
and Google Maps 5.0 with 3D interactions are just a few of the overwhelming features that the XOOM will offer.
The ATRIX 4G is an absolute show stopper. It is by far the most impressive phone I have seen unveiled thus far. The ATRIX 4G will be offered on AT&T and is being touted as the “world’s most powerful Smartphone.” It is hard to argue that fact since the ATRIX 4G is packed with a dual core processor with each core running at 1 GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power. David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T mobility and consumer markets says
“With ATRIX 4G, we are rethinking what a smartphone can be, and literally changing the game with a new device category that combines the power of a laptop with the latest smartphone featuresand 4G speeds,”
The ATRIX 4G has many other features unlike anything in the market today. TechZulu will be doing a full review of the new ATRIX 4G in the coming days.
The DROID BIONIC will be offered on the Verizon Wireless and will be available on the new 4G LTE network. The Droid BIONIC packs a dual core processer with each core running at 1GHz and 512 MB RAM. It comes with a 4.3-inch qHD display, dual cameras and comes equipped for corporate compatibility. Motorola is calling this the “End of Waiting”
CLIQ 2 (T-Mobile)
The Motorola CLIQ 2 for T-Mobile offers a 1 GHz processor and improves on the design of the original CLIQ with MOTOBLUR technology. This phone is less impressive than the ATRIX 4G or the DROIC BIONIC but fills a need in the market. This phone really appeals to the user that wants a keyboard and does not want to sacrifice on operating system. The MOTOBLUR technology allows for uber social connectivity and the Quickoffice integration makes the CLIQ 2 still a work horse.
Motorola was by far the most impressive press conference of the day. Their take on mobile technology and what that should look like is engrained in all their 2011 CES offerings. The idea that one device can FULLY take care of all needs is one to pay close attention to as 2011 unfolds and Motorola will be leading the charge.
