ALYT | HAL 9000 for Your Home
Technology brought the world smartphones, smartwatches, smartglasses, and other “smart” technology. Smart-homes has been around since the 80s, but the ones who can afford it were the tech-savvy elite. Smart-homes are only becoming a more affordable and possible technology many people. ALYT looks to be the affordable option for the everyday user.
ALYT looks like an alien space ship; a space ship willing to take orders and make sure the house is comfortable and secure in every way for its owner. “A complete wireless communication – no wires involved. It’s something that can be installed by the users themselves without an intervention from a technician and set-up in a matter of minutes,” says Riccardo Mazzurco, one of the founders and strategist for ALYT. “A new approach on security and automation that can be handled by the users themselves. It connectes to any smartphone or tablet through Android or Apple iOS applications. Apps can be handled locally or remotely.”
The Italian team specializes in security, but saw an opportunity to help people obtain an easier solution for in home comfort as well. ALYT provides users four main comforts: Home Security, Home Automation, Energy Efficiency, and Entertainment Control. Home security was the main driving force in building ALYT. The team prides itself in creating a security system where users are not only given smart-home luxuries, but also an increase in safety.
The smart-home hub provides cellular, Bluetooth, Z-wave, infrared, NFC, DLNA, Wi-fi, and Zigbee connections. ALYT wants to ensure its users the capability of connecting with current and future smart-home devices. The Android-based product gives developers – hardware and software – open source goodness and allows others to do some DIY with future apps and products.
Anyone with an Android or iOS smartphone/tablet is in control of whatever ALYT is connected to. Want to turn on the lights before getting home? Done. Need to see who’s at the door when you are not around? Done. Not only can you control from your smartphone/tablet, but ALYT can also recognize voice controls and gives you suggestions based upon the questions you ask.
The idea of smart-homes isn’t anything new in the world of technology. However, the idea of having an affordable smart-home is. Having an energy efficient system with the added benefits of home automated controls and a security system which instills a peace of mind for many ALYT homeowners gives something the common family to be excited about. The size is no bigger than an iPad Air and has the looks to match it. The stylish design hides ALYT from others, looking more of a sculpture than a smart-home automated system.
The team also underwent an Indiegogo campaign and came through reaching their goal of $100,000 earlier this month. Pre-order sales are still going on at their main website starting at $149 and more for their video and smart-home kits. ALYT’s Indiegogo page describes itself as the “Siri” of smart-home. With an affordable price and easy set-ups, smart-homes may be more common sooner than we thought.
