This week on TechZulu Live we have special guest Eric Jackson, CEO of Caplinked and former U.S. Marketing Director for Paypal Inc. CapLinked was founded in late 2009 by Eric M. Jackson and Christopher Grey. With multiple ventures under their belts, they knew from firsthand experience how difficult the process of raising capital is for entrepreneurs, who’d rather be building their company than managing paperwork and updating cap tables. As an investor, Christopher also appreciated how frustrating it could be on the other side of the table, where investors often go for months without hearing from the entrepreneurs they trusted with their funds. Convinced that there ought to be a better way, Eric and Christopher created CapLinked to solve the problems that entrepreneurs and investors face while trying to capitalize new companies.
Jackson previously ran the marketing team at PayPal, where he was responsible for the campaign to monetize the online payment service. He served in a number of capacities, including Sr. Director of U.S. marketing and interim Vice President of Marketing. Here are just a few of Jackson’s major accomplishments during his time at Paypal:
- Running the company’s first campaign to eBay customers in Jan. 2000, paving the way for PayPal to be accepted as a payment option on 50% of all auctions by year end.
- Developing methodology to upsell customers from free to fee-bearing accounts, resulting in a 99% conversion rate and transaction revenue growth from $1.0 to $7.4 million in just one quarter.
- Managing PayPal’s marketing campaign during fierce competition against eBay’s in-house payments service, Billpoint. Despite aggressive posturing by both companies, a poll by Gartner found consumers still trusted our brand by a 2.5-to-1 ratio over Billpoint.
Being considered as one of the individuals in the Paypal Mafia (a growing number of PayPal alumni who have started new ventures after eBay bought the online payments firm) we will have a lot to talk about with Jackson. Also, I’m sure you all will have plenty of questions for an entrepreneur such as this. So make sure to tune in to TechZulu Live this Thursday at 4pm PT. If you have any specific questions you would like us to ask Eric Jackson make sure to leave them in the comments below and we will definitely get them answered.
