Frank Gehry to Build 420,000sq ft Campus as New Facebook HQ
Mark Zuckerberg has hired World-renowned 83 year-old architect Frank Gehry to design the new Facebook HQ.
Mark said in a post,” I’m excited to work with Frank Gehry to design our new campus. The idea is to make the perfect engineering space: one giant room that fits thousands of people, all close enough to collaborate together. It will be the largest open floor plan in the world.”

Mark says the building will have plenty of private, quiet spaces while its roof will be a park with a long walking trail, a field and lots of places to sit.
He added,”From the outside it will appear as if you’re looking at a hill in nature”.
The social networking giant has not disclosed the amount it has set aside for the 420,000-square-foot building at its Menlo Park, California campus or how much Frank Gehry is cashing in on this deal.
However according to Mark working with Frank Gehry will actually save Facebook money.
30 % Costs Off
He posted, “Many development projects like this waste 30% or more of the materials due to poor planning, but Gehry uses a software-based design process to plan more precisely and efficiently. His buildings have a reputation for coming in on time and on budget. So we expect this building to be incredible and not particularly expensive.”
Walt Disney Architect
Though famous and world reknown Frank Owen Gehry has no Facebook Page.
The 1929 born Los Angeles based Canadian American Pritzker Prize-winning architect has built famous works like the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the titanium-covered Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, MIT Stata Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts; the Experience Music Project in Seattle, the Dancing House in Prague and 8 Spruce Street in New York City and his own private residence in Santa Monica, California and the planned Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial.
Gehry’s work has been recognised among contemporary architecture, the 2010 Vanity Fair’s World Architecture Survey named him as “the most important architect of our age”.
Commences in Spring 2013
According to Bloomberg the project commencing in spring 2013 and ready for use in the spring of 2015 was Gehry’s answer to Mark’s need of space to work in the same room with all his engineers.
Gehry said; “Mark said he wanted to be in the same room with all his engineers. I told him we could put the building up on stilts, park cars underneath and create a room as large as he wanted.”
No Buses Allowed, Just RipStik!
Unlike the buses at Facebook East, Bloomberg says Facebook West might have RipStiks, skateboards and snowboards might be the means of transport perfect for quarter-mile-long building.
