Uppward: Foursquare for the Business Traveler

Recently there has been a whole slew of location based apps popping up for every industry.  Then another set of apps on top that focused on a certain niche within that industry.  Most are not worth the time or energy to check in but there are the few which catch some attention.  Uppward, an all new social app that allows you to add flights, check in and see who else is going to be flying with you, is one of those apps which caught my attention.

The reason it did is not the fact that you can check in to a flight and see who else is flying then connect with them.  But, the fact that they are striving to create a universal frequent flyer program.  Taking on a huge task such as this might have been unbelievable a few years back, but as of late it could be quite possible to get all the airlines to commit and try something new such as this.

Currently they are using the LinkedIn authentication process for users to sign-up.  That will help in keeping Uppward pretty business traveler oriented for their current beta and not just a bunch of random spammer sign-ups.  To try it out for yourself you can go to http://m.uppward.com on your iPhone or Android (currently in Beta) device. Definitely going to be keeping an eye out for Uppward.  If you have tried them out or once you do, let us know in the comments below how you like it.  Would you use Uppward on a regular basis?  Do you think the airlines would go for a universal frequent flyer program?
