First, thanks to Efren for everything. I am excited to be your new TechZulu Editor In Chief. As part of my techno- hippocratic oath, I promise to keep improving the quality of content here at TechZulu. Right off, I want to mention that I am a big fan of TechZulu, and of the idea of helping the community to thrive by covering “hot topics” that we in tech care about.

I didn’t know Efren was going to be paying me in bubble wrap and packing peanuts, so I need your help. Good, timely, tech writing is hard to find. I am putting out the call for any and all aspiring tech writers–bloggers and people w/an interesting tale to email me: alex [at] techzulu [dot] com. I can’t promise I will respond, but I do read everything and cogent work samples work best.

Finally, I want to offer my rationale for taking the job: my perspective is coming from that of a programmer, not a journalist, and I feel that it is important to make this distinction on day 1. To quote Adrian Holovarty, co-creator of Django in a recent interview:

I believe it’s easier for programmers to become journalists than it is for journalists to become programmers, but both sides need to gain an appreciation for the other in order for this sort of thing to happen more often. Fortunately, some news organizations are starting to hire developers with this in mind, and some geeks are realizing journalism is a great, (mostly) pure field that lets you improve the world through information.

So it is with the idea of ‘improving the world through information’ that we set out to tackle the cool startups, the upcoming tech trends and ideas shaping our community, and those tech ideas that are integral to sustaining the planet, to the best “buys” at Circuit City. And we don’t have to do that with a snarky message or taking a red marker to an image. As a great driver of industry, technology improves people’s lives – let’s focus on the positive and find ways to help the world through content and connectedness.
