Fugitve Studios: East of Byzantium
Co-founded by Visual Effects Artist Roger Kupelian, Fugitive Studios is about taking people on amazing journeys, specifically through the creation of Digital Environments. Whether it be for feature films or televised media, and through their own created content, they are focused on making your worlds come alive. Fugitive Studios is a constant maelstrom of ideas and concepts, and is a scalable visual effects house.
The paradigm of the visual effects industry is shifting to meet global realities. Fugitive Studios is a counterstrike to the trend, without the overhead of large behemoth facilities but with all the skills.
Fugitive Studios is currently working on an epic film by the name of East of Byzantium. The story takes place in 3rd Century AD. Two orphans, exiled from the land of their birth, return to carve out a kingdom between great empires, and set their country on a separate course than their powerful neighbors. Over a hundred years later, their descendants would face one of the mightiest armies of the ancient world , a battle that will alter the course of history. At the crossroads of faith and culture, from the end of one world and the birth of Byzantium, comes the story of Fugitives and Warriors, a 200 year saga about the force of arms and the power of faith.
East of Byzantium: Fugitives and Warriors is the first solid step towards a fully realized epic retelling of the birth and defense of the first Christian nation in history. Envisioned as a visual effects-intensive indipendent feature, Fugitives and Warriors will be followed by a larger epic that can only be described as the Braveheart of the Byzantine world. Written and Directed by Roger Kupelian (one of the lead artists on the effects for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy) , EoB began its life in New Zealand in 2002. During one particularly wet weekend, Kupelian and an army of medieval reenactors descended into a muddy field and begin shooting what has become a six year journey of development and strategy. Defying the odds at every step, EoB is now entering its most crucial stage of development.
