Le Sigh for the PsiXpda

At the LeWeb conference, my fellow Traveling Geek – Ewan Spence – tempted me with a sneak peek of the PsiXPda pocket computer. It slides! It tilts! It has a touchscreen AND a backlit keyboard for conference environments. It runs WindowsXP, but is compatible with Ubuntu, JoliCloud and other Linux operating systems (hackintosh, anyone?)
Check these specs:
- Form Factor: clam shell in white, black, pink
- Dimensions: 6.85 x 3.3 x 0.98 inches
- Weight: 15 ounces
- Screen: 5 inch LCD touchscreen, stylus provided
- Display: 800 x 480 Intel GMA500, 32 MB VRAM
- Camera: Forward VGA Webcam
- Keyboard: full QWERTY (with backlight feature)
- Power: 1850 mAH battery (~2-4 hrs runtime)
- OS: WindowsXP Home (& Linux-compatible)
- CPU: 1.1 GHz Atom processor
- Memory: 1 GB DDR2
- Storage: 16 GB SSD
- Connections: WiFi, Bluetooth, built in 3G (optional)
- 2 USB 2.0 ports (one mini USB)
- Micro SD card slot
As one might expect, while this UMPC may be light in weight, its price tag is a bit hefty at $830. Then again, word on the street has it that @Scobleizer has already pre-ordered a device – so I’m sure there will be a waiting list before long. ;-)
