Off and Away: A Luxurious Stay Is But A Bid Away

Summer time is approaching and vacation times are just aching to be used.  Since you already need to book a room why not give Off and Away a chance to book you a room in luxury.  And to boot you might even score it at up to 90% off the regular price.

The basic concept of “the highest bidder when the auction ends wins” and it is all done in real time.  Every time someone places a bid the time clock gets an additional 30 sec added to it.  That always helps with those darn last second bidders.  In order to bid, you will have to buy a bid package. The bid packages start as low as 10 bids for $10 to as high as 250 bids for $250.  All auctions start at $ 0, and a “no reserve” model applies in every case.

When the bidding is complete you have 24 hours to book the room.  One nice thing is that even if you do not win you are able to apply 110% of the bids that you used to try and win another room.

Similar to the Swoopo model the site makes it money from the casual bidder.  Meaning tons of people will buy bids and not necessary use them all or will use them all but then not win anything.

Given the success of similar sites like this but applying it to the Luxury hotels I can really see this idea taking off.  Who wouldn’t you want to try and bid for a chance to stay in a presidential suite at a five start hotel at the price of the Motel 6 next door.  Can you see yourself using a site like this when planning for a vacation?
