Emerson once wrote, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds” and he went on to say, “A great person does not have to think consistently from one day to the next.” Of course, Ralph wasn’t running a modern operating system and didn’t have to deal with emails, browsers and streaming video. For a lot of us, Windows XP has become an old friend, and we deal w/it’s little issues like navigating a favorite book or restaurant, without batting an eye and get about our business.

Most productive people I know stick with one operating system and rarely switch. Be they Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X or Linux fans, they all have their opinion about which is best. I generally fall on the side of whatever works for you, works for you-but may not necessarily translate to others.

Lucky for all of us, Microsoft has given Windows XP a reprieve – at least until 2010. New sales placed through the end of January will get new shipments of XP through May of 2009. Netbooks were already exempt and wil be shipped for years to come. In the case of everyday work – I have to disagree with Ralph and suggest that we all want consistency in our lives. BTW – a “foolish” consistency would be if you didn’t backup your system occasionally…
