AuthenTech: Making The World Safer One Fingerprint At A Time
AuthenTec is doing some awesome things with Biometrics. I remember when I first saw a buddy’s laptop a few years back with Fingerprint security technology I was amazed. I was trying all kinds of things to try and trick the system but nothing but his fingerprint would unlock the laptop. For those who don’t know AuthenTec they are a fingerprint authentication sensors and solutions for PC, wireless device, and access control devices. So When I saw AuthenTec at CTIA 09 I had to get an interview with them and see what they’ve been up to.
Currently they are heavily focused on penetrating the mobile market. They see that more and more people are relying on their mobile devices to do just about everything now, from keeping important documentation to paying for good/services with your device. AuthenTec want to be there to keep what is important to you safe a secure even if you happen to lose your device. The technology behind it is amazing. They can even read your fingerprints if you have damaged skin!
AuthenTec’s semiconductor-based sensors use small RF signals to detect an image of the fingerprint ridge and valley pattern, capturing sharp and clear fingerprint patterns from the live layer of skin just beneath the surface. This approach, which is in marked contrast with optical, thermal and DC capacitive solutions that read only the surface of the skin.
