Last Friday, Mixergy teamed up with gWave Consulting to put together San Diego’s second Happy Hour 2.0. The event was held atop the roof of the ICON condo high rise, which overlooks Padre Stadium. The host of the event was Melani Gordon, from gWave who we covered in one of the first interview posts for Techzulu late last year in 2007. (Our first interview with Melani is here.) We managed to do a follow up interview and she explained about gWave’s latest projects. After talking to Melani, we were told that gWave is working on a niche network that was supposed to be announced at the Happy Hour 2.0. From what I was told, the niche network appears to be rather interesting because niche networks are this year’s focus for advertisers. A few months ago, RadioOne made a $38 million purchase for CommunityConnect, which owns BlackPlanet, MiGente and AsianAvenue. Also, IAC, Barry Diller’s company created a division called Black Web Enterprises that will specifically focus on developing a community for the African American niche. So when she mentioned that she has a focused niche, it caught our attention. However, the project was not ready at the time of the event.

Our quick introduction to gWave is that it is a web consulting firm that helps internet businesses increase traffic to their site through search engine optimization, display advertising, affiliate marketing, interactive advertising, blog and viral marketing. At the event, over 50 people showed up for snacks and drinks. The crowd that attended the event were mostly filled with other consulting businesses that provided services such as software development, web design, and graphic art work.
