FreeWavz | The Wire-Free Health Monitoring Earphones
No matter where my earphones are, they magically seemed to be tangled up in a knot. It’s one of life’s longest mysteries; no matter if you lay them flat or wrapped around a phone, wires will always end up tangled. More Bluetooth-enabled devices are showing up on the market and less wires have to be dealt with. FreeWavz offers regular headphone wearers – especially the active groups – a Bluetooth headphone which can not only deliver calls and music to your ears, but doubles as a health monitoring device.
“It all started because I’m kind of a workout junkie – gym rat if you will – and I don’t like things strapped or hanging from me. Of course like most, we don’t want to listen to other people’s music or what’s playing in the gym. We have our own music set we like to listen to. In my world – the ENT world/hearing aid world – there’s a particularly type of hearing aid that we use for a typical type of patient that has a certain kind of hearing loss,” says Dr. Eric Henson, Founder of Freewavz. “I looked at and thought I can take that basic concept and develop my own idea. That was born out not only of my own desires but also my patients’ who were having problems.”
Unlike other typical earphones, the Founder of FreeWavz is an ear specialist and has designed a headphone to stay in the ear, no matter what activity you’re doing. The earphones are also sweat and water resistant. FreeWavz wants to be part of (almost) any activity you wish to tackle. The battery keeps the device going for 6-8 hours and recharges in an hour or so.
Fitness devices need additional equipment, but FreeWavz can double both as your entertainment system and a fitness tracker. No need to wear a band or another type of device. Just turn on the earphones and start tracking your run or while you ride a bike. Track everything from your heart rate, speed, distance, and more on the app.
Do a lot of activities outdoors? The earphones have a special option to let you adjust how much of the outside surrounding noise mixes with the music you listen to. A pair of mics helps let sound through the earphones, to make sure you’re not completely deaf of the surrounding area.
The device is controlled through your smartphone by app which is available both on iOS and Android systems. The earphones can also control your smartphone by answering calls, scheduling reminders on your calendar, or other actions by voice commands.
An open architecture was built in mind with FreeWavz. This allows developers to tinker and offer a new use for the earphones. They can transform the device into a hearing aid, private communicator, or even a language translator.
The earphones are an expensive device. On their Kickstarter campaign it costs $179 (even after the early bird discount). One option to keep things cheaper for them would have let customers have the option to get a health monitoring version or not. Also, many other health monitoring devices do provide other metrics, but require you to wear all day as well. The earphones are aimed at those who live an active lifestyle, but some just want a pair to wear at the gym (or anywhere else) without all the extra features and spending less cash as well.
A world without wires seems not so far away anymore. FreeWavz offers a device that not only delivers a tangle-free life, but also a smart health monitoring system allowing users to carry less devices on the run, walk, ride, or any other activity. A nice wearable device for those looking for less wires and devices in their active (or non-active) life.
FreeWavz Kickstarter campaign is going on right now and goes at a price of $179. Check it out before the campaign ends.
