Samsung Unveils New Line of Stylish Branded, Armageddon Surviving Memory Cards

Try to recall when it was the last time you looked at the SD or microSD card from your phone, camera, or tablet and thought to yourself: “Damn, these cards are kind of ugly. I wish they’d do something about it.” Probably not huh? So what’s the big deal with Samsung’s new line of “stylish branded memory cards?” Well.. when they’re advertised to survive a proverbial triumvirate of biblical-proportioned physical abuse, the advertised brushed metal design starts to sound a little more substantial with functional purpose rather than just marketing bling.

Samsung has designed their memory products to be waterproof, shockproof, and magnet proof, allowing them to withstand pretty much anything you could throw at it. All models are guaranteed to survive up to 24 hours in water, withstand the force of a 1.6 ton vehicle (3,200 lbs), and resist up to 10,000 gauss (slightly less than the power of a medical imaging magnet). So unless you’re a volcano climbing strongman competitor who goes base jumping into 1,000 ft underwater caves (always with mobile devices in tow), I’m pretty sure these memory cards, just like those memory cards wholesale, will survive 95%+ of normal consumer use.

The line of memory products is aimed at active consumers on the go who value fast reliable performance for their adventures and work. With read speeds of up to 24 MB/sec and max write speeds of 13 MB/sec  (High Speed Line) and 21 MB/sec (Plus Extreme Speed Line), users can transfer up to 1GB of photos in as little as 42 seconds.

Their lines are split up into sub-divisions for consumer (High Speed) and professional (Plus Extreme Speed) use. Product specs and pricing are as follows:

*Accessible capacity varies; MB = 1 million bytes, GB = 1 billion bytes.

While they do check in at a slightly higher price point per GB, I’m sure most consumers wouldn’t mind paying a few dollars more for something that’s virtually indestructible.
