Who is that EIC again?
First, I hope your new year is going well. By now, that throbbing headache from your NYE hangover should be gone. Now that its 2009 and I have been at TechZulu for awhile, I thought I would spend a few minutes and re-introduce my-techno-self.
If you are my Facebook friend, you would know I was born in Ohio – but you wouldn’t know that I also lived in New Jersey and Illinois for a few years before coming to SoCal when I was in middle school (hey, we moved around a lot – my dad was in telecom). While my first machine was a TI-99/4A, my second was an unenhanced Apple ][e and my third was a Toshiba T1000. I started programming in BASIC, then Assembly, followed by C, then Visual Basic, SQL, Java, VB.NET, C# and Python. I am a huge good quality SciFi fan, from Heinlein and Asimov to Dr. Who (new & classic), vintage movies like Zardoz to Transformers as well as a mega-fan of new, working technologies.
EIC
On the family side, my partner and wife of 14 years is a Professor of Comm. Studies @ LMU. We have 3 children together and live w/our German Shepherd and my mother-in-law (not in that order, of course). We are lucky enough to be on the Westside of LA and generally don’t have to fight traffic (unless you are going anywhere during rush hour or to Orange County at any time).
In terms of my approach to new tech, I take on a luddite/murphy’s law view, especially in terms of applying new technology in business. At the same time, I am happy to spread the gospel and have taught programming for several years (more on that, another day). As a power-user, my P-7811FX laptop has 2 hard drives, several OSes and takes a lot of abuse – if you see a photoshopped image in one of my posts, it’s because I GIMP’d it myself.
These days, I am growing my consulting practice in Venice and doing collaborative work. I code by the hour and stay busy but am always open for more. This year, I am planning a non-profit and 2 new projects as well as keeping sharp here as Editor In Chief of TechZulu. There is no doubt in my mind, 2009 is going to be a big year (especially after reading Enrique’s post), so get ready!
