Boundless Learning Wants to Replace the College Textbook for Free
Boundless Learning is replacing the expensive college textbook for free.
The startup has released free online educational materials in beta to the public. The Boston based startup says on its site, its making the world’s open educational content more useful for students by connecting them with the wealth of high quality, openly licensed, and free educational content created by leading education experts with more than 20 years in the field.
According to CEO and co-founder Ariel Diaz speaking to the Boston Business Journal Boundless Learning materials are customised for use on tablets,iPads and can be read like the print materials. At the moment the startup has released biology, economics, psychology, sociology, anatomy and physiology, history and writing online materials for use in colleges.
According to Diaz Boundless Learning materials use openly licensed educational content, prepared and shared online college tutors and lecturers for over 20 years.
Though Diaz did not reveal the exact number of students who have used their products, in 2011 Boundless Learning recorded to have had their beta released products tried by students at more than 1,000 universities.
With its 5 full-time staff and a $10 million funding from Venrock, NextView Ventures, Kepha Partners, Founder Collective and SV Angel and a lawsuit Boundless learning maintains its products will remain free for all.
