Let’s Take a Walk Down Memolane [Invites]
Memolane, a startup Founded by Eric Lagier, is a product of Startup Weekend that is now in private beta and already has raised $2 million in funding. Memolane sets out to “Keep your memories alive” by allowing you to “Capture photos, music, tweets, posts, and view and share your entire online life in one place.”
There are two basic problems that Memolane solves in the social media world. The first, how do you aggregate all of my social content and see it all in one place and second, what if I want to find something past the 15 seconds of fame the social media window allows.
The majority of our social content is strewn over a few different sites. The ability to see where you checked in, what you posted to Facebook and what music you were listening to requires multiple logins and manual searching. Memolane imports all of your data from Twitter, Facebook, Fourquare, Flickr, Picasa, Last.fm, Tripit and Youtube. Once all of this information is gathered it places it chronologically on a beautifully designed timeline. Think about it as scrap-booking your life without the glitter.
The real application for Memolane comes in the form of collaborative stories. Lets say you and five of your friends go on a vacation together. Independently you all record the debauchery events of the trip. Once back you all could collaborate on a Memolane story and have access to all of your friends information. The story will come alive as tweets, pictures, checkins and even the music you were all listening to are added from your time line into the story. Check out the story of Memolane’s creation here .
Memolane is backed by an impressive list of investors. Eric Lagier Memolane’s CEO ran Skype’s mobile products from 2005-2008 so the group is very Skype friendly. Niklas Zannstrom and Janus Friis (Founders of Skype) both invested along with Skypes first investor Howard Hartenbaum (August Capital)
I have played around with Memolane which is still very much in private beta and am very impressed. Compared to Dipity (it’s greatest competitor) Memolane has really created something special.
