Viddy Rebrands to Supernova | Starts Building More Than Video Apps
Social video sharing platform Viddy has not been doing well as of late, even though it had struck a chord with loyal consumers and had a raised a significant amount of capital to see it grow.
The short video app builder was facing competition from the likes of Twitter’s Vine and Facebook’s Instagram video and MixBit.
Therefore the LA based startup has announced a line of new products and rebranded under a new name.
According to JJ Aguhob in a blog post,
“As a startup, we knew we needed to evolve. But as artists and engineers, we also had to stay true to our roots. So, we set our sights further and began reimaging what’s possible. We tapped into our community and brainstormed with them in our office. We began prototyping new, progressive experiences. And after six months of insane design, coding and development, we have several new products to share with the world.”
Supernova’s first two products include Clique and EPIC, already available on the App Store. Epic is a short, sharable video concept that allows users to take slow-motion videos which can then be shared to YouTube, Twitter or via Viddy, while Clique is like the ephemeral image messaging popularized by Snapchat.
The startup’s core Viddy app, will not be abandoned but the team will continue to iterate on.
Viddy’s rebranding to Supernova symbolises the startups new birth and a lot more products coming out. Supernova will build more multimedia apps inline with Viddy’s social sharing element.
