If it hasn’t happened to you, it’s likely in today’s economic climate that you know someone who’s dealing with it now. Losing your job stinks, particularly when you have a family and mouths to feed. You’re supposed to be the breadwinner, the person who brings home the bacon, so to speak.

Hence the name behind new job search, LocalBacon. The startup, which launched at TechCrunch50, seeks to make the hiring process more efficient by charging candidates a base of $0.99 to apply.

You may be asking – why charge the person who’s already broke? Well, if a person believes they’re qualified for a position they’ll be more willing to put a little skin – well, bacon – in the game. The result? HR Managers have to deal with less clutter and quality applicants have a better chance at being discovered.

In return for their buck, job seekers get the added benefit of knowing the actual status of their application, and are provided with timely feedback from the hiring organization even if they didn’t make the cut.
