Last week I caught up with Albert Ko founder of DealPerk which is a new web site that launched for the Orange County community.  Similar to Groupon, Dealperk gives you a Perk (Deal) a day at a very inexpensive price.  Take today’s deal for instance.  Get 5 ice cream bars from BoardWalk Ice Cream Co. at Irvine Spectrum for only $10.  Normally it would cost you $20, however there is a catch to get this deal.  A certain number of people must sign-up and buy the perk for the deal to be available.  For this deal they need only 10 people to sign-up for the deal to work.  The nice thing as well is that if the deal doesn’t go through no body gets charged.

Checkout the interview below where Albert and I discuss a few key points about DealPerk:

I interviewed Albert about why he decided to start DealPerk and a really interesting conversation came about.  He began telling me that ever since he was a kid he always was looking for the best deals around and if he couldn’t find them he would try and make them happen.  Albert gave me an example with his High School prom.  He went to a local tux shop and negotiated a deal with the owner that if he could bring him X number of people to the tux shop the owner would pay for various prom items for Albert such as a free tux, paid prom tickets and even a paid limo for his group of friends.  Not only did he negotiate a deal for himself but also for his classmates.  Each classmate who went to this particular shop received a $15 off coupon for their purchase.

Dealperk relies heavily on social media for its success.  So far it has been doing an awesome job.  The “Deal has been on” for every perk since the site launch.  Below is a list of all the deals that have appeared on the site:

– Bluewater Grill in Tustin (Minimum 20) – $20 for $40 of food.

– Newport landing whale watching (Minimum 15) – $19 for a whale watching ticket + binoculars (value $38).

– K1 Racing (all locations) – $45 for 4-14 Lap races + 2 1-year licenses (Value $91.90).

– Janny’s Donuts (Tustin) – $5 for $10 credit.
