The reverse-google problem is what happens when you want to own a unique identity (i.e. a trademark) when you started with a common language term. Thus Burbank-based NBC owned basic-cable channel the Sci Fi Channel will become SyFy on July 7. According to Bonnie Hammer, president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, in the NYT, “We couldn’t own Sci Fi… we can own Syfy.”
