Techsclusive: To 3D or Not To 3D… The RealD Question
And the answer that RealD Co-Founder and President Joshua Greer gives is a resounding, “YES!” We talked to Joshua at the Beverly Hills offices of RealD about everything from 3D’s beginnings, a la the stereoscope and stereographic cards (he has a set in his offices that he gladly shows off) to the latest 3D film offerings like “Journey To the Center of the Earth” which just happens to incorporate RealD technology.
The one thing you get right away when talking to Joshua is that he is a ‘real’ fan of 3D. It’s not just a way to make money, it’s his passion, and it seems that passion is what’s needed to make 3D an accepted reality in today’s theater-going experience. From our talk, my guess is that Joshua and RealD have that passion. The TechZulu team was treated to an amazing set of 3D movie clips that left us not only speechless, but picking our collective jaws up off the theater floor. One of my personal favorites was a segment from a U2 concert, which completely envelops you into the concert going experience. That is not to say that the ‘Sneak Peek’ we were treated to of ‘Journey To the Center of the Earth’ was not a thrill ride, but since it doesn’t come out till the 11th of July, I’m not going to spoil anything for you. Let’s just say that if you aren’t one of the first on your block to get out and see this amazing 3D adventure (I hasten to say movie because it seems too limiting to the experience that I know the audience will have) you’re going to spend the summer listening to everyone else brag that “they saw it first!”
Do yourself a favor. Watch our interview with Joshua Greer of RealD and then immediately go online and purchase your tickets for ‘Journey To the Center of the Earth.’ You won’t be sorry!
