During CES we caught up with Jeremy Toeman creator (and target) of the Gunman iPhone app.  Gunman is an augmented reality game that uses the iPhone’s camera as a rifle scope and lets you start an all out shootout between you and a friend. So, how do you get the action started?  Gunman gives you 5 colors to select from (red, green, blue, black, white) which you specify as the color of your opponents shirt.  Select a match duration and you are on your way.  Tapping the screen fires your rifle and shaking your iPhone reloads it. But how accurate can your shots be with only 5 different colors to choose from?

Jeremy tells us that they took thousands of pictures of 5 different colors of shirts in different lighting settings.  By doing this it allows for accurate hit detection no matter what the lighting condition maybe.

A really cool thing I thought is that they have a hit list of people you can snipe.  The Gunman app also has a leader-board which can be found on the Play Gunman website.  In order for you to get on the leader-board you need to take out a few people on the hit list they provide.  Jeremy was using my phone to show us the app and got a hit for me from a stranger in a red hoody during the interview as seen in the image.

According to the Jeremy new features will be added such as location detection, achievements, new weapons and more.  Currently its very simple and straight forward (point and shoot).  You can save and upload your images of shots fired and share them via twitter, just in case your opponent is a bit of a cheater and says you didn’t shoot him.

checkout our interview below with Jeremy Toeman as he gives you an overview of the app.
